Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930), well-known Scottish author and physician.

Doyle wrote 4 novels and 5 collections of short stories about Sherlock Holmes, one of the first, and certainly the most famous, of fictional detectives. Holmes is a consulting detective, living in London, constantly solving crimes that baffle the police. He combines brilliant deductive reasoning with a cold, arrogant detachment toward his cases and clients that frequently amazes his sidekick and biographer, Dr. John Watson.

Doyle was a prolific author, and there are many short stories and novels not about Holmes. A few of these have mystery elements; many are thrillers or historical fiction. You can read a brief biography of Conan Doyle.
